The Band " Lords Of Green", aka LOG, hail from the dark recesses of Detroit Michigan. Spewing musical truth on a path of green, L.O.G consisting of Went, Hue, Rogor, & Drew are seen in the picture to the left, fighting the good fight, track after track, after track, after track, after track ...............after track.
January 1993, in a basement in a Roseville, MI home. A band was forming. That band, although nothing that will last more than a few months, will change the lives of each member involved with it. Called 'Terra Firma', the Latin words that describe the 'Earth as viewed from space', had a seemingly insightful approach to the notes conjured into their songs, was to be the first step to the relationship that theWent, Hue, and bassist Drew were to have as a writing team. As said, this was to be a short-lived experience for them, as Hue was fired after he was determined by theWent, and Drew to be just a bit overbearing when it came to conveying his musical-concepts to the them. Overbearing to some... visionary to others. Needless to say, being able to communicate ones musical-ideas effectively is very much part of the writing process, and Hue was fired for all the right reasons.
Fast-forward to 1996, when we find our three writers together again, this time in a Detroit basement. A new band, "Garmonbozia", and a new drummer... Donald Madden was to be the launching-pad which gave them their first opportunity be bitten by the 'stage-bug'. Their first gig was a one-song battle of the bands for a standing-room-only crowd. Taking first place surprised them all, as they were up-against the house band, that was performing the Metallica song Fade To Black. Garmonbozias music was mix of quirky lyrics, and melodic solos on a bed of densely-chorded rhythm guitars. It was a very selfish concept, but one that had the opportunity of being popular if marketed properly. With this being their first gig, just being so well recieved , and by such a large crowd... the boys were stoked! They spent the next three years chasing those magic moments back and forth the various stages of Detroit. Of course all good things must come to an end, and in Garmonbozias case, that end was a bitter one for most people involved, both in and around the band. Garmon' was one of those bands that you hear about how they could've "made it", if only they had only "done this", "done that"... never really anything one could put a finger on. Although, the name may have had some degree of prophesy to it, as it came from a David Lynch film and bears the meaning "pain and sorrow". Garmons end was both painful, and sad indeed.
Fast forward again, this time to the year 2001. Drew has since quit playing altogether, and has moved on to form a family. Exit Drew, enter Michael. Michael Smith is a witch. Both in the traditional sense of the word, and by his own definition, being that of a person who practices an eclectic mix of various religious doctrines, and metaphysical beliefs. Hue and Michael seemed to be cut from the same cloth, and it wasn't long until they were fiddling with their acoustic guitars, writing new works that they were to perform at various religious functions throughout the year. Building upon this new acoustic approach, along came theWent to add his brand of vocal harmonies, and chugging axe riffs, to form the next band... the Metaphysical Engineers. This band was different, not only by the fact that there was no drummer,(all the percussion made up of hand drums, and those duties being rotated through the bands members), but also in the sense that it worked via a sort of open-arcitechture writing style. Each member sang, played guitars, covered the hand percussion, or whatever odd instrument the song being played at the time needed. There was never a dull moment on the stage of a Metaphysical Engineers show. There was always something new being incorporated into the set list... always a different instrument for each member, from one show to the next. It became a bit taxing after a while, so every now and then they'd have someone sit in to help-out with the mayhem. ME didn't play allot of shows in their three year run, but it was in this time that theWent, and Hue found their latent talents, and were able to exercise their vocal harmonies. In a sense, ME gave the two long-term writers a good platform to find the patients within their song writing, and employ it. Once again though, the joy became a task, and it was time to put a perverbial bullet in the head of the dying horse. Metaphysical Engineers did their last show in Febuary of 2005.
Such a long, strange trip it's been for the two writers that never seem to get it right. Always an issue of funding, or timing, or some member has this issue, or that issue... it's not easy maintaining a musical integrity while pleasing all involved. It taxes everyone around you, as well as yourself. So much money, time, effort, and sacrifices on every level, just to chase-down, find, and bask-in those fleeting magical moments that only a stage can offer. While theWent, and Hue have no doubt enjoyed their struggle, as only a couple of true massocists could, they also realize that it is the struggle itself that makes those magical stage-born moments to be so damn... magical! Re-enter Drew. How it all came back to the point of Hue, and Drew sharing a home together again, is a story that is way too long, and complex for the likes of a simple band biography to entertain. Let us call it suffice to say that those two years between bands were complex, and hard hitting. But now... such a nice, big basement! How could a musician not form a studio in it? An impossibility for Hue, and Went. They never stopped making music, even without a band to surround them. Local short-film scores, and voice-overs kept them very busy within the confines of their modest home studios. Until the opportunity arose to form another band... the likes of which Detroit has never heard.
Hue has been working for the same taxi cab company that he has been since 1995. It's the kind of job that would allow for any schedule, so it was perfect for anyone looking for a loose work schedule, able to keep gigs within. It was at this place of employment that Hue met Roger, who would, after two years of knowing each other, finally take his place as the drummer in the new heavy project that has come to be known as The Lords Of Green. Why Green, you may ask? Hmmm... well... that part of the story is really is quite simple... the boys like all that is... aka Green. See, simple. What is not simple about this new band, is their drummer, Roger.(The guys pronounce his name as 'Rogor', because there is no 'd' in it, it's said like the supermarket name 'Kroger'... again, no 'd'.) This drummer changed a lot to the approach of writing again, actually going back to the whole 'live technique', where someone would start the session with an idea, and then they'd would build on the idea from the input of the others. Session; after session, after session the boys of LOG soon built a compilation of songs, and jam-concepts that would bring them close, once again, to those moments on the stage when nothing else matters than the notes being crafted. Rogors very technical style of playing completely compliments the various musical styles that the rest of the band manifests. He's complex enough to support the song itself, but open enough to allow for the songs concept to shine through. All involved say that it is the finest musical unit they've ever had the pleasure to write and play for. It is this band that we present for your approval. This band is LOG. Enjoy!
